2019 Don Carlton Memorial

December 14, 2018

We had so much fun with the 2018 Don Carlton Memorial and Nostalgia Pro Stock race that we have already started preparing for the 4th Annual Don Carlton event in 2019.
This weekend event encompassed a gathering of legendary former Pro Stock drag racers, the Southeastern Nostalgia Pro Stock Association, and the Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association to celebrate the life of late Don Carlton, the most popular and successful Pro Stock drag racer from the 1970s.
In addition to the Nostalgia Pro Stock Race and the Meet & Greet with notable former Pro Stock drag racers, there was a new Pro Stock car unveiling. Surrounded by an anxious crowd in the staging lanes, The “Party Time”, 1985 Pontiac Trans Am, owned Jim Ruth of Illinois, made its first public appearance.
Along with Jeff Rudisill and Tyrone Graham of the Southeastern Nostalgia Pro Stocks Association, we are working together to make the next event even better! Mark your calendars now, September 21, 2019, The South Carolina Motorplex will host the 4th Annual Don Carlton Memorial and Nostalgia Pro Stock Race. Stayed tuned for more details.

Regarding the Street Outlaws No Prep Kings Event at the South Carolina Motorplex

March 09, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Written by Jaime Biegun
Regarding the Street Outlaws No Prep Kings Event at the South Carolina Motorplex

Our dear Race Fans of Orangeburg and surrounding areas:

We want to apologize for keeping you out of the loop regarding the truth about the traffic/ parking problems pertaining to the No Prep Kings event at the South Carolina Motorplex two weeks ago. It is our strong belief and understanding that The South Carolina Motorplex has wrongfully acquired blame for these problems. We are realizing that it is unfair to you; our town, our fans and our friends to continue avoiding the topic. With that being said, we, the owners, along with several volunteers and employees strongly believe that we did everything we could to prepare for this large event. There is only so much the track can take responsibility for, the rest is in the hands of the Event Promoter.
In this case, the Promoter being No Prep Promotions. The Parking and Spectator Entry procedure (run by the Promoter and NOT the track) held up traffic for hours, leading to the Fire Marshall shutting it down. The Promoter was advised what the track’s capacity was prior to the event being scheduled and he disregarded the information. We at SCM apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. This was the first time we had an event using this Promoter and we felt confident with their ability to successfully foresee how the event would unfold after spending 3 weeks at our facility.

We believe that most of the problem is that the Promoter “oversold” tickets, However, we are unable to confirm this as they refuse to disclose to us the total number of ticket sales. To make matters worse, after a very successful and packed event, the Promotor hit the road and is
refusing to pay what we feel is owed. Unfortunately for those few Reaper fans, this Promoter will not be back.

As the track owners, we choose to remain honest, humble and fair and we strive to partner with those who act as we do. We do not feel that was the case here. As a result, we have felt it necessary to take legal action against the Promoter in order to protect our name, as well as the good name of the race fans of Orangeburg.

We apologize for the delayed explanation. We appreciate all the support of the locals and those afar. We look forward to many more drag racing events; big and small. We are currently preparing for the American Drag Racing League set to arrive April 13-14. Get your cars ready!!!!

Menards Chevy Show Series Ready for 2018 with New Venues and Millions of Viewers

January 29, 2018

The Menards Chevy Show will give participants in the southeastern U.S. more opportunities to participate in 2018 with new events in South Carolina and Alabama.  A new Midwest venue has also been added in Kansas City for automotive enthusiasts throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa to attend.

Thousands of car show, drag race, and swap meet participants attend the events each season at a dozen facilities in the U.S.  Many of the traditional locations host drag racing during their events at Bandimere Speedway, Maple Grove Raceway, Bristol Dragway, Texas Motorplex, Virginia Motorsports Park, No Problem Raceway, and Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield.  New facilities with drag strips and car shows added to the Menards Chevy Show schedule for 2018 include Darlington Dragway, U.S. 90 Dragway in Mobile, Alabama, and the South Carolina Motorplex in Orangeburg.

In the category of non-race track venues, Ace Cafe Orlando held its first Menards Chevy Show with great success in 2017. The automotive themed restaurant will once again host an event, which nearly reached capacity through pre-entries because of its popularity.  Joining the Menards Chevy Show in the same non-track category, the 11th annual KCI Cruise Car Show will become part of the series through its rapidly growing event near Kansas City International Airport.  This Kansas City event reached 1,000 participants this past season and looks to keep the momentum going by adding the TV show.

Since 2015, the Menards Chevy Show series has been broadcast on the Velocity channel.  More than two million TV viewers have annually tuned in to watch the series on Saturday mornings at 9:30am EST in October, November, and December to see their cars at events, and check out other entries for restoration ideas and trends.  The popular TV series has been renewed again for the 2018 season on Velocity.
